This review is from: Handheld Metal Detector Portable Security Sensitive Scanner Alarm This hand held metal detector was more than I expected. I used it immediately it was delivered. It uses a 9 volt battery (the rectangular ones) which I already had at home I went straight to my basement and in the first 3 minutes I found 1 coin from 1977 and an old button. To me, that's a huge treasure since I love old stuff and nick nacks. By the way, my house was built in 1920 in Philadelphia PA. It's one of the easily portable ones of moderate size as a handheld and is quite lightweight. As you can see in my video it works on the metal of the knife laid on the counter. It also works on a gun hidden under my husband's shirt. And not only can you set it to sound but it can be switched to vibration if that is preferred. The price is good at the (current) price of about $21 and I consider this an excellent value. Yes, it will no doubt detect a gun under someones clothing, but I'm looking for something that can detect smaller metal items, like nails, buried in a piece of wood, before it destroys an expensive saw or planer blade. It works poorly if at all for this. A 2 inch long finish nail remained undetected despite nearly touching the wand. To be reliably noticed, it had to be inserted thru one of the openings in the detectors coil assy. Not any use at all for my purposes. This means the nail would have to be protruding visibly from the wood. Basically a waste of money.
